- Oh yes, don't we all love deals!
- My only coup so far was walking through a used book store and magically pulling out 3 hardbound copies of Conan stories, original Howerd versons, unrevised. ($4 ea!!!) I've forgotten which publisher. Last year my daughter went looking for a replacement for my well-loved copy of 'Heroes of Bear Creek' and found that my tattered old paperback goes for $60 now! (Man, where's the glue!!)
Better hide those old paperbacks in ziplock bags folks. I shudder to think of what the kids did to my big collection of Conan graphic mags over the years! [V]

On day I was early for an appointment, walked across the street to this raggedy antique shop in a converted house. Nothing I was interested in, mostly glass and doodads. On my way out, looked down into a cardboard box by the door "old books--- $1.00 ea." Saw one of about 8 words I recognize in Arabic--- "Hadjj"--- It was a first of Burton's poem "The Kasîdah of Hâjî Abdû El-Yezdî" only a couple hundred sold when it came out.
The sad ending was that the stupid amount that I eventually got for it went to my second wife when I sold my books as part of the divorce settlement.
The happy part is that it didn't end up tossed when nobody bought a stupid old book of poetry. A collector in England bought it, and no doubt cherishes it :)

| Posted By : Edward Knight - 3/3/2006 9:27 AM | Well, the first edition paperback isn't worth squat. It has to be the Chilton 1965 hardcover. Later printings (like the one I bought) were in red cloth; the original printing was in blue cloth. The price on the jacket is $5.95.
