gardnersteve said...Yes! This is a great resource. Thank you for taking the time to put it up. Will we be seeing more information posted along these lines? Such as additional books that are recommended to sword and sorcery newbies such as myself. I know that a rating system would also be appreciated. I'd like to buy the anthologies and collections of sword and sorcery which members recommend as the best!
Glad this listing can help you out, Steve. This antho listing is a sort of recommendation listing of sword-and-sorcery, sword-and-planet, and swashbuckling tales written in anthos that contain multiple authors in each antho.. The recommended short stories are listed in the "(Story List)" pop-up for each antho. For instance, if an antho is listed with 10 stories and only 3 are listed, then the rest of the stories do not fit our definition of the 3 sub-genres mentioned above. However, if another book has 15 tales and 12 are listed, that is an antho that would be greatly recommended to the readers of this site.
The SwordAndSorcery.org site has numerous book reviews from different reviewers. I myself have a column titled Forgotten Stories that reviews and recommends books from 25+ years ago. Of course each reviewer has their own taste in the 3 sub-genres - what one reviewer might enjoy might not appeal to another. You'll just have to read each review and get the feel of the story from its reviewer.
Good luck on your enjoyable hunt for s&s tales, and welcome to the type of books some of us consider one of the most enjoyable and exciting genres to read.
