Ten Reasons to Love Being a Speculative Fiction Writer...

10. Nobody thinks you're wasting your time.

9. We can ask a group of peers what a one-handed Norman axe would do to a bare thigh, and none of them think it's a strange question.

8. We're able to spend an hour on the computer and the family leaves us alone.

7. The mail's arrival is cause for excitement.

6. Regardless of what else we do in life, we all know how long it would take to reach Alpha Centauri at .89 the speed of light.

5. The use of commas can spark an hour long debate among peers.

4. We can spend an afternoon in the book store and not once set foot in the Self Help section.

3. If the postal worker doesn't know what to do when we request an IRC, we can give them step-by-step instructions.

2. Members of the opposite sex think it's cool (okay, maybe that's a stretch).

and the best reason of all...

1. Every now and then, dinner is on an editor.

You lost me here. I mean, I understand all the words individually, but when you put them together...

Yeah, I thought that might be a bit of a stretch, too. That's why I do the majority of my writing after midnight.

I think number 10 might be a bit off as well. [:)]
