Totally agree. DG was a top author. I have all of his books. Stella did a grand job of finishing the book. You could hardly see the join.

Hey Wez, in that case I envy your collection. I always got my DG fix from the Library. 

Fall of Kings was a satisfying end to a strong trilogy and you're right Stella did a great job. It's a real shame, I don't know about you but I felt these books marked a definite gear change in Gemmell's writing.

I agree about the definite gear change with the Troy Trilogy. The novels previous to them were a bit formulaic. OK, some may say all his work is so, but I would disagree, on the whole.

His Drenai series got so toward the end and he used his best characters in the early books, IMHO of course, but the Waylander and Shannow novels were inspired, as was his Hawk Eternal short series. Parmenion in the Alexander books was another exceptional character and he had a whole host of them in the Troy series.

As you say, it is a great shame he passed away. Then again, he left on a high and leaving us wanting more, so in some respects he may be happy with his legacy. Although I, amongst many others, mourn his passing. Have met a few of the well known sf/f authors but never met DG.

Guess I shall have to reread his work now. Which willnot be a chore.
