Dave,

I'd like to see an Editors forum. There's a bunch of us on the board right now, and, from recent posts, it looks like we're all interested in finding out how to "get the word out there". The forum would be a place for us to exchange ideas, what worked/what didn't.

I'm sure I speak for a bunch of us, but if you're an editor chime in if you're interested!

Sounds doable to me. I gotta warn you though, if this becomes as obsessive as the Poetry thread I'm going to have a mental breakdown. Now that I think of it, you had quite a bit to do with the creation of that, too . . . .

Sounds good, we'd need a better name for it than 'editing' though or people will just think its about proofreading tips. I suppose Editor's Forum (or Talk) would be a better title.

But its a good idea, both for editors and writers.

Someone other than me can propose this idea to Dave, since I'm not actively involved in doing the editors job.

What do you think about making it a private forum? Just barnstorming an idea here, but it might not be crazy. It would give editors a place to talk about things without running the risk of having those ideas seen by hundreds of other people (ideas about marketing strategy, cross-promotion, submissions schedules and game plans, even plain old simple griping about the editing process).

I'm onboard for a private forum. That way we could do "Editor Shoptalk" in private and then parcel out what we think the writers need to see. Not that we're trying to hide anything

, but this would offer us the autonomy and freedom to type openly. I'm sure the bulk of our discussions would be fine for open discussion, but I really think there are matters that writers shouldn't witness our discussions on simply because they may get the wrong ideas (seen this happen a number of times).

I'm for inviting anyone with 'significant' experience or responsibility as an editor or proofer or editorial assistant, etc. Especially would love to see the "old hands" toss in their pearls of wisdom.

Gimmie a better case for a private forum -

So far the only private forum is the writers group, and that's to avoid reprint issues when submitting stories being critiqued there.

My first inclination to a private Editors group is not to make it private, since I want to keep the forum all inclusive and as open as possible.

I don't really think a private forum is neccessary. Non-editors will benefit a lot from following the discussion, and can certainly contribute with questions for the eds. I think anyone can start a private enough conversation through PMs and email that a whole forum isn't neccessary.

Besides, if it's private who gets in? Only folks currently working as eds? Past eds? People named Ed?

I think public is okay. If we want to badmouth people we can do it without naming individuals. And I don't think there's anything wrong with people "seeing" our marketing strategies. If anything, we might get some great ideas from writers!
