That would make things a bit more livelier around here. I haven't been posting as much as lurking these past few months as my work schedule drastically increased, but things are loosening up now. I hope to be posting more, and it'd be nice to have a chat room. Is this in the realm of possibility?

I've been asking the same question. Whenever I see some familiar names logged in at the bottom of the screen I think it would be nice to stop and say hi.

I like the way google-chat works. Just just mouse over a name of someone that's on your contact list and active, and you get a chat window with them. You can either leave it attached to the main gmail window, in which case each person gets a string of emails going back and forth, or you can detach it and have a chat window.

Would be nice to have something like that on here.

I've popped into the chat room a dozen times or so and never once found anyone there.

Perhaps it would gain popularity if someone scheduled a specific chat .... "Thursday at nine, join us to pick the new Harry Potter book apart" ... or, "Friday at 10 p.m., chat with Armand Rosamilia about Carnifex Press and its upcoming projects" or a particular author or whatever. That might increase awareness.

I nominate Steve to put a few chats together and talk everyone into showing up!

Sorry, CrystalWizard ... you haven't seen my "to-do" list, have you?

But I imagine anyone who wants to come up with a good topic and set a time could gather a crowd with enough advance notice and an invitation on the board here.

I just realized that I can't find the chat link any where on the forums pages. I thought it was at the top, by home and calender, but it's not. Where did you guys find it?

i'll see about getting the link into the forums; bear in mind that the forums is a purchases COTS app and there's a very limited amount of customization I can do.

Suggest using the forums calendar feature to schedule chats - you'll find that link at the top of the forums pages

Heh, I never knew there was a chat room for these boards. Like others have said, if it was more prominently integrated with the forum, perhaps people would decide to use it more often.

Well, on other boards it works best to set a regular time for chats. Those who can make it, just come in.

On the other hand - and I'm not trying to take anything away from you, Dave - I run my own irc chat, and everyone is welcome to look in. (I'm there when I'm awake and at home.) If it's okay, I'll post the details here.

I've logged onto the chat here, but I'll never be able to use it much, I time out and get put to bed too quickly. I chat as I surf, pausing for reading forum threads and posting responces, and this chat is just too needy for me.
Had a nice chat with Crystal Wizard on it though.

I second mike's comment. it's a nice chat room, but I can't concentrate on just it and it times out after a short time. Otherwise I'd just load it and leave it up, then keep part of an eye on it to talk to whoever if anyone wandered through. But i've got too many other things going on all the time to be able to do nothing but chat.

If someone wants to schedule a specific event, maybe a work group sort of thing or something, it would be good for that.
