| Posted By : Rob Santa - 5/11/2006 9:24 AM | | I figure Firebrand Fiction is Daniel's baby, yet I'm going to bring up this idea in the public forum and see what happens. Ed's gripe about not getting Amazing Journeys #11 reviewed despite sending out copies leads me to believe there's plenty of room for more reviewers in the world. I feel I'm not alone in stating that when it comes to expressing my opinions, I'm filled with them. I would be happy to review serial markets like AJM and other mags at SFReader, as I'm certain other forum members would as well.
I know you've been in it neck deep, Daniel. Would it be stepping on your toes if a few of us helped you return Firebrand Fiction to a monthly column? There are some follow-up ideas to this question, but they will remain unspoken if you'd rather keep Firebrand as your own.

Actually, if someone would like to step in for a couple of columns, that would be great!
Wouldn't be the first time, either! Greg Beatty graciously stepped in for me many moons ago. His column on Ralan's spectravaganza was a top-rated feature here at SFReader.
I'd be grateful for the back-up. Right now, I'm still knee deep in rehearsals for Imagine~Yesterday, which premiers at the Hoogland Center for the Arts May 27th!

Thanks for the offer, Rob!

| Posted By : Rob Santa - 5/11/2006 7:48 PM | Then I'll officially open the door to receiving review copies. However, as I realize markets like AJM are already strapped by putting them out, I see no reason why review copies couldn't be PDF-formatted email attachments (or what-have-you). Sure, having the magazine in hand would be great, but in the end it's all about the quality of the stories inside the pages, not the pages themselves.
One of the ideas I had but was withholding was to suggest there could be a few of us who have subs to certain markets that would regularly review those issues. I believe I've let my Paradox sub lapse (sorry, Chris, I'll make amends ASAP - certainly before the next issue) and I've yet to sign up for an AJM sub (again, apologies to Ed for not supporting his fine mag). I would enjoy claiming those two mags (plus another for a nice, round hat trick of reviews - though I'm undecided as to which). Anyone else have thoughts on this?

Forthcoming fiction: "Rise of a Necromancer," a Dermanassian novella, in "Flashing Swords." "The Demon War," reprinted in "Worlds of Wonder." "A Long Night with Five Mothers," in Pitch-Black Books' "Lords of Swords 2." "Let the Black Earth Take It All," anthology, Rage Machine Books. |

| Posted By : Daniel - 5/19/2006 2:32 PM | You really should because I can't do so -- being a FS staff-member, even though I have absolutely nothing to do with selecting the stories. Pitch-Black does partially fund FS, though.....
That would be the only way for FS to get reviewed here at SFReader in the FF column.
I second Shauna's motion! Daniel

| Posted By : Rob Santa - 5/23/2006 12:55 PM | Okay, I'm on it. Daniel, I will be sending you a Firebrand column (to see what you think of it) in a few days with Flashing Swords #6 (paired with a surprise). I also picked up Cemetery Dance, Cthulhu Sex Magazine, and The Book of Dark Wisdom for a darker-than-normal Firebrand column to follow.
