I recently had a meeting with the Diet Soap editorial team and I'm very excited.

We're officially actively seeking submissions of ALL KINDS:
Poetry, artwork, essays, rants, manifestos, interviews, fiction, and anything else you think may fit our purview.

We're willing to consider all genres, all styles, all lengths.  Editor Doug Lain tends to like self-aware literary or surreal fiction and articles -- political content or social commentary a plus.  We've published the likes of Tim Pratt, Stephanie Burgis, Rachel Swirsky, Katherine Sparrow, and more.

Reprints welcome!  Small honorarium ($5) paid for all accepted works!  Beautiful contributor copies! Lightning-quick responses!  Adoration and groupies practically guaranteed!*

Send anything you'd like to douglain at dietsoap.org.  Poetry subs can come directly to me at poetry at dietsoap.org

We're not picky about submission format.  Just put the word submission somewhere in the subject line to avoid our spam filtering.

I look forward to reading your work!  Feel free to distribute this announcement with wild abandon.  Upcoming themes (loose interpretations welcome) are sabotage and slavery (wage- and otherwise).

*void where groupies prohibited by law.

[edited to add]: . . . And I supose this might be useful: http://www.dietsoap.org/
Thank you, John Whalen.

Curses!  The only story ready to send out at the moment is a fantasy humor piece.  I'd like to think it's witty, but 'literary' would be a label I can't make fit.  smilewinkgrin

they take reprints, Jared ;)

Camille, you have no idea how it warms my heart to see people who are more interested in the story/poetry written than in the submission format.

I'll see if I've got something that might interest you or Doug.

Cheers: Jaq.

Well.  I look forward to seeing that semi-historical slipstream sabotage manifesto you plan to send to our inbox soon! ;]

So true!  And if you can write a great 100-word story that fits our upcoming themes, we'd love to see it!

Jaqhama,

I'm amazed sometimes what some markets demand in this regard.  Common sense should rule the day in most things, thinks I.

Send me more!

Is that a dare?  smilewinkgrin

Still, what the heck.  The worst that can happen is the stories are rejected and my fragile writer's ego is crushed, right?  I'm assuming you're okay with multiple subs, then?

Think of it more as a challenge than a dare!

There are no unresponded-to subs currently in my queue.  There are only a couple from last week that are still being considered by the editorial team.  If you hear of anyone who has not heard a response from us, and their submission was sent more than ten days ago, it means their submission did not get past out spam filters or our response did not get past theirs.  Tell them to query me immediately.

Everyone reading this forum post (yes, everyone) has my permission to send me multiple poetry subs (though one per email, please, and my preference for poetry is "pasted into an email", though I'm not picky), but other multi- and sim-subs are not encouraged according to our Duotrope Listing.  I had to go look it up:

It's my current goal to respond to all incoming subs with either a yea, nay, or hold notice in zero to three days.  Bring it on.

My writer's ego is so blooded, damaged and bruised that I don't think it can get any worst ;) I'll send them this weekend. (crosses broken fingers)

Camille, I just submitted. My apologies if you receive duplicate emails: the first time delivery failed because I accidentally typed ".com" instead of ".org," so I forwarded the original message. Then I realized the ".FW" in the subject line might get caught in your Spam Filter, so I sent it again. rolleyes

Hi, Nicholas!

I chuckle at you, but only as one author to another in this realm of electronic submissions.

I've received all three copies of your submission alive and well (Fw:, poetry.org, and douglain.org, since I sort slush) and look forward to reading them it.

Okay, a strangely dark and disturbing semi-speculative poem sent your way.

Now we wait and see if the voices inside my head speak the truth, or speak only lies.

(I'm actually starting to worry myself.)

Thanks!  I look forward to reading it!

I should mention that while I, personally, adore specfic , Diet Soap is more of a literary/slipstream/experimental publication.

Okay, I got a nice nope on my tale, with a request for more. I'll be complying.

Same here.  The poem may have been too dark, or too speculative.

I've got a literary piece or two I might be able to send as reprints, but I don't think I have anything that fits the upcoming themes.
