Anyway, here's some of the things I might be useful for;
guitar - I've been playing since I was fifteen. Fairly knowledgeable. I prefer blues, hard rock, classic rock. I'm not a Steve Vai, nor would I want to be; not my style. And I'm old-fashion - acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and amp. Not into the microchips. But I can teach you some open tunings, and I know a fair number of songs (chords, riffs, what not.)
swords - My wife and I have been taking a "Historical Weapons" class for nearly a year now. Not an expert, but good fundmentals. German two-handed long sword, Italian and Spanish rapier, and gladitorial combat (so far.) The main reason I started was to help with writing authentic sword-play in my tales.
computers - I'm a CS major, but I don't do hardcore programming any more. But I can script (shell, Perl) just about anything and my daytrade is "Software Release Engineer" so I know how to write software installation programs.
history - good at some chunks, weak on others. Pretty good with the American Civil War and learning more about the American Revolutionary War (as I research for my character, Doran Coyle.)
I have large number of reference books, too, so I can look stuff up if I don't know it immediately.

Well, now I get to put my foot in my mouth -- no, I don't. I haven't developed webpages in depth. I tend to stick to simple HTML.

| Posted By : Dave - 1/13/2006 5:59 AM | Pull down menus are client side and 99.9% of the time accomplished through javascript or a combination of javascript and CSS (cascading style sheets).
There are plenty of free drop down/foldout menus scripts available. I recommend starting at www.DynamicDrive.com.
You'll have to know how:
Download your web page from the server to your local machine
Cut and paste the code into your web pages as instructed
Edit the script as appropriate to include your links
Upload the new file to you web server
Uploads and downloads are usually accomplished through FTP. FileZilla is a good, free FTP program. Depending on where you host, you might have some sort of web interface that allows you acess to the source code for your pages that you could use.
The drop down script I use in the main area of SFReader came from DynamicDrive.
One caution: most drop down and foldout menuing scripts make heavy use of javascript. If the actual link is encoded into the javascript, it won't be visible to search engine spiders, which means they might not be able to find all the poages in your site for indexing.
The drop down on SFReader IS NOT search engine friendly, which is why I duplicate the links in teh left and right hand columns, as well as in the footer.
The fold out menu I use on my affiliate site www.iShopHQ.com uses a combination of CSS and JavaScript and IS search engine friendly.
