My real question is: What is the IBID system?

I'm guessing it's some kind of book inventory/financials computer system, but don't know.

Lin works in a bookshop...she says that ISBN is International Standard Book Number...ISSN...International standard serial number, she doesn't know what IBID is...but maybe we don't have it or use in Oz?

It is a point of sale book inventory system used by book retailers and some libraries.

hum, I thought "Ibid," was a term used in reference lists to indicate that the current reference was the same as the reference right before it. Like, if you quote Smith and Jones for reference 1, and reference 2 is to the same Smith and Jones you can just say "ibid."

Guess there must be another use for it.

I work at a book store; in fact I’m at work as I write this. In addition to the uses mentioned by Michael (btw I’m looking forward to meeting you in July, Michael) ISBNs can be used for data entry in bookstore inventory systems, as well as ordering books from certain distributers.
