Make sure your text Style (the drop-down box on the far left of your tool bar) throughout the document is "Normal." If you have other styles mixed in, such as Body Text, for example, this will cause funky things to happen when you cut and paste.

I've had this happen when using cut and paste from older Word documents to newer versions. I have no idea how the text styles get all mixed up in one document (probably from even older upgrades to later versions of Word), but it does happen. You can Select All and then choose Normal from the drop-down menu, but be aware that you may lose some formatting that will then have to be fixed before you cut and paste. I have found that once the entire document is coded Normal, the cut and paste problems are fixed.

Maybe someone else will come along with a better solution, but that's all I know to do.
