Hello wise Jedi masters.

Have a question and I was hoping someone would take the time to give me the "For Dummies" version.

Using little words and speaking as if to a particularly slow child, could anyone tell me how to take a picture from my pile of snap shots--get it into my computer and A] format it so I can send it to someone for their website, and B] put it in my sig box off to the side of my posts like the smart kids do?

I do own a scanner.

I realize this is probably a tedious charity case but think of all the mana you'll be storing up in heaven.

Thanks--Nathan

Well, I don't know your scanner, so you need to follow its directions.

Once you get the image, find a way to save it as JPG (that is smaller and more universal than BMP or whatever the scanner might default to. If you're lucky, it will default to JPG)

The trick to using it in your signature is that you need a program that can RESIZE the image. See, something like Paint just does cropping.

Once you have a tiny picture, you can use the 'Control Panel' section of your account to upload and set the picture in your signature block.

That's the 10,000ft view. I can't get into more detail cuz I'm at work and shouldn't be typing this anyway ... smilewinkgrin

I get as far as scan to jpg. You were acctually very helpful. I don't think I have the program that resizes--which explains my endless quest of pulling down every menu I can think of. Makes sense that I simply don't have it--as I looked and looked.

So only I have a jpg I simply email it to the site person and they do the rest, I assume. Thanks I'm pretty sure I can get that far. Need to find that right-sizing program.

Thanks 4 clearing that up!

Nathan,
look over your options in the scanner software. Mine did have the ability to resize images in it.
I don't use it, I'm about at the level you are, but It is there.

Thanks Michael [and Paul]. You don't happen to have the LexMark scanner/printer do you--out of curiosity.

No, but Michael is right. I used the default program that came with my HP scanner/printer to shrink my photo.

There is a shareware program, LviewPro. If you don't want to buy it, you can do the 30day trial. I've used it in the past.

If after going to your Start Menu and pulling up All Programs you have a folder for Microsoft Office Tools, there is a program called Microsoft Photo Editor. Load the photo then used the Image dropdown menu. There is a Resize option. Shrink it down so that it fits the requirements of the forum (sorry, don't remember what that is, but if it's too big the forum Control Panel will let you know). Don't forget to Save As... so you're not messing with the original photo file.

No, just searched for that program and I don't have it--though I do have more microsoft software than I had thought, strangely enough. Thanks, Rob.

Now I've lost the picture I wanted for my sig. Was able to e-mail the jpeg for the website just fine though thanks to you guys.

I apperciate the help.

Big Dave, thank you much!

Just look at me in all my square-headed glory with my fist-altered potato of a nose.
Of course now my tag line kind of seems to make my photo sound/look like a Sexual Predator poster.
Gonna have to change that I think, lol.
