Ralan - a great resource and nicely organized listing of pro/semi/paying and also 4theLuv markets - has updated their policy for "token paying" markets. They've been moved (some might call downgraded) from paying to 4theLuv.

ResAliens (that's me) decided to become a token $1 paying market (to move into the next category up) and sent in my update to Ralan, and he sent back this kind explanatory note....

(I) have decided on a new policy for the "4theLuv Markets" and "Paying Markets" pages, effective immediately. Markets that pay less than $5 for fiction, or less than $3.00 for short-short (flash) fiction for any and all works (just paying higher than the minimum for one featured story does not qualify) will now be listed on the "4theLuv Markets" page. I've moved five markets that fall into this category to the "4theLuv Markets" page.

This decision is based on the fact that many of the markets listed on the "4theLuv Markets" page pay in print copies, which typically cost as much or more than these minimums. That did not seem fair to me.

I see that this effects Every Day Fiction and NorthPoint (zines from this forum that I'm familiar with) and a couple others. I have no problem with Ralan's changes (his site after all) but I do feel bad...I guess you can blame me for the downgrade, lol. Well, that's the news.

I suppose there will always be casualties of categorization.
 Thanks for posting, Lyn.
