The paranoia continues;

BTW- the 'REAL' ID only need apply if you were born in 1964 or after. Apparently terrorism is a young man's game.

I would like to see where a state driver's license facilitated any part of the 9-11-01 attacks anymore than valid passports and visas.

I believe I have lived long enough to see the Roman Republic become the Roman Empire.

Travel papers, please.

Heh. Next thing you know, they'll be making the Verichip mandatory.

But the only way they're going to chip me is after they shoot me full of holes. Same with the National ID crap. I'm not accepting it. If that means I can't get on an airplane, then big deal. If they won't let me drive, I'll use a bicycle (or just drive without an ID and with a gun handy, depending on my mood and where I need to go). And if it means I can't enter a government building, I'll consider that a favor.

Some good news so far. None of the States managed to get things set up in time for the National ID card. Some states citing not enough funding, etc. And some states (especially a certain governor in Virginia) flat out refusing, period. So of course, the Ministry of Securing the Fatherland, er, Department of Homeland Security, threatened "real consequences" if the governor continued to refuse.

Heh. And then the bigwhigs in the Federal government are scratching their heads over why States like Hawaii and Oklahoma are pushing for secession...

I wouldn't say we've hit the Roman Empire yet, but we're definitely on the virge of a Gaius Marius or Lucius Cornelius Sulla to rear up.

We're having ID cards come out over here in the UK. At least the Government says so. Many are starting to think they won't go through with it as so many believe it won't really help and will cost loads, plus I suspect many won't comply.
In fact, if I remember correctly, they want to bring ID cards in, but won't force us to have them. I might be wrong on that but sounds about right for government here.
