Nearly two months, and I'm still looking for a job. I just got word that my latest bid was shot down, and I thought that one was a good shot. It was nearly directly in line with what I did  in my last one.

Still some things in the pipeline, but precious little hope left.

Keep on plugging away, Jeff.

Have you thought about going through a headhunter? I did once, and they lined me up with several job offers, all for way more than I was making before.

There aren't many head hunters out there for the communications field. I've looked.

Times I was unemployed, I tried to find work through employment agencies, but they didn't really handle science positions. At one point I ended up taking a dreadful job in customer service at a Sears service centre just to have something versus nothing.

Sorry to hear you're still looking, Jeff. Try not to lose hope. Keep trying.

There's always the option of going back to school if you get desperate, though I hear tuition can be killer in the States.

There's also the option of taking a job doing something other than what you want, to tide you over while you keep looking for what you want.

And applying for all the government help you can, too, such as foodstamps and so on.

Yup, going to agree with CW there. Stupidest thing I ever did, way back in the day when I was going through the couch cushions looking for enough change to put gas in my car so I could bus tables for twenty bucks, was to not go after government assistance. In retrospect I wonder how I couldn't have made the phone call (or now, just look it up and apply online). It's there for a reason, and this is a perfect example.

Good luck.

Especially since you pay into it all the time. Might as well make a withdrawal in times of need.

Sometimes it's just a matter of time and persistence, but it can definitely be taxing. Hopefully things will improve soon.

A couple of years ago, my husband took a job as a corrections officer just to make ends meet. He couldn't find a job in the field that he wanted (something having to do with computers) and our local paper had adds almost every day for the state prison. He wanted nothing to do with that job, and hated the fact that he had to do something that he didn't enjoy.

Maybe I should say didn't "think" he'd enjoy, because he's been working there for over 2 years and is loving it. He's now going back to school to get a degree in Criminal Justice (and, depending on the school you are going to, you are right Jordan).

You never know until you try something new whether or not you have a hidden passion. Keep looking Jeff. Something will pop up, and it may be the last thing that you expected. :o)

Jeff,

I dont know how attached you are to Texas, but Fairpoint Communications is hiring like mad in Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine. They pay well ... Do a web site search for Fairpoint and take it from there.

Hate to hear that about the job search.

My best advice is to network. There is a hidden job market beneath the want ads if you know how to access it. Start sending off professional letters of interest to hiring managers/executives asking for informational interviews about their companies and the positions they have available.

Keep us posted on your progress...
