Take care of yourself, Jeff. And please don't joke about eating bullets. Suicide is something that has hit some of us pretty close to home. If it wasn't a joke, please seek out help. There are experts who can help us deal with those feelings, and there is nothing wrong or "unmanly" in admitting you need help every now and then. We all do.

Keep writing. That's often helped me sort through my issues (and I have plenty...).

Jobs come and go sometimes -- you've got to look at it as a chance to re-direct your career and keep in mind that often a positive change can come out of something like this.

I'm letting y'all know it's going to be quite some time before you see me again. I lost my job the other day, so I've got to focus my energy on finding a new one (and not eating a bullet).

It's been a blast here. Thanks to all of you for your help and friendship.

:( Here's hoping it won't take you very long to find a new one.

I don't know your circumstances Jeff so I'm not sure how to take your 'bullet' thought.

But being alive and well is always better than being dead...ask any dead person...do they look like they're having a good time?

Life often sux...it's how one deals with difficult situations that defines us.

Take any job that comes along if you need the money. That's the botton line. Once you've got some more gainful employment...you can always look for a better job.

Chin up old son.

Oh, man, I'm really sorry to hear that.  I hope you can find something else quickly.

Hopefully this will turn out to be one of those blessings in disguise, and you'll end up with an even better job.  Just remember, you're not your work, so even if you have to take a crappy job in the interim, don't let it get you down.  I recommend temp companies, incidentally.  I think I've inadvertantly become the world's expert on temping over the years, so if you have any questions PM me, seriously.

Good luck!

Jeff, thirding sentiments. I unexpectedly lost my job a couple of years ago - and bounced back. I'm not saying it was easy, but it happens to most people at least once. If you need someone to talk to about anything please don't hesitate to get in touch, here or at LJ - and I mean that.

This too shall pass.

I want to second Jordan and David's sentiments.

I took it merely as an expression of disappointment. I've been saying similar things for a couple of weeks, and everybody keeps trying to shove it back down my throat. Funny, but it gives me a powerful thirst for wine or hemlock more than it keeps me from longing for the curtain to close. Of course, it helps to realize that the basturge what needs a nogginectomy ain't me - it's some other fellow what needs that (or maybe three or four or more).

Jeff, I really hope it is just a cynical statement of your frustration. As the step-father to sons who lost their bio-dad to that dietary obsession, I can tell you it's devastating on everyone around you to do such a thing. Keeps me breathing to know that no matter how badly I dork things up, it will never be as bad as taking my own life. And yet I do have a yearnin' to die every now and then . . . so I talk to somebody!

Man, sorry to hear about your situation as well.

Update: Well, I did just review your story in ASIM 33 and enjoyed it. So at least you don't have some rogue reviewer poking fun of your writing during a time like this! lol...sort of. Look for it soon at The Fix.

Well, Poot!

Sorry to hear it, Jeff. Best of luck finding new employment. Did you see it coming? I hate when those things blindside us! Happened to me about ten years back. Twice, I've been 'downsized' out of work. Tough row to hoe, but also a great opportunity to advance idea
