That's awesome! Still snail subbing, but the IRC was a real vexation to my spirit, so at least it's something!

So you see boys and girls...making a point/disagreeing/complaining/arguing can indeed produce results.

A small result admittedly...but still a result. :p

For the future, would would be best if Doug (or anyone else) posted their own comments instead of having someone else do so for them. For several reasons.

1. If the comments are of a nature that require a response, it's impossible to respond directly.
2. There's no way to know for sure if the person who made the comments really wanted them reposted

So, T.L, please tell Doug you reposted his comments and then please invite him to come and post his own comments from now on. We'd like to have him take part in any discussion he feels would be beneficial to him and the rest of this community.

I decided to delete the post, CW. You're right, of course. I don't think Doug's interested in potentially be drawn into debates about RoF's email sub policy by signing up and posting, but rather just wanted to warn newer writers against employing particular tactics espoused in this thread, tactics that could prove damaging to their careers. So I guess I'll just say it: there are better ways of making points and getting changes made than by arguing with and annoying editors. In the end, civility earns more respect for one's opinions and positions.

I apologize if I broke any forum rules by making that earlier post.

what I mean is...would many sci-fi and fantasy magazines (not that I believe there are that many paper ones anyway) have a bigger readership if they supplied an electronic magazine as well as a paper magazine?

So far, while their seems to be a vocal contingent complaining about the lack of electronic copies of top mags (or the high pricing of them, given they're electronic ... and the fact that they cycle them out same as paper... and lots of other weirdnesses)...

GUD still sells more paper copies than electronic. People really like the tactile sensation, it seems. And we do our best to provide the highest quality physical impression at a reasonable cost... but still, PDF is easy-peasy, I'd like to think. PayPal and have it emailed to you automagically, instant gratification. And even a chance to personalize a copy to a friend (which almost nobody takes advantage of). It's like readers don't know other readers, somehow...

We get both electronic and physical orders from all over the globe...

Not to just hijack the thread ;) It's just something I'm very conscious of. Like you, I think, I expected more digital uptake. And we've got our e-versions out and about (kindle, fictionwise, a number of smaller sites), as well as on our own site.

Hell, we give e-freebies just for creating an account on the site to see if we can hook people. And I can tell you that several people avail themselves of that daily, now that we've automated it (instead of waiting for them to ask for a freebie).

You know what's funny? Flashing Swords accepts both email subs and paper. I have yet to get even one paper submission. I haven't even gotten a query about how to send in a paper submission. Not that I'm complaining, I really prefer email.

GUD doesn't accept paper submissions. We get them. It's very annoying. It's a PO Box that one editor has access to... and his access to it, at times, is intermittent.
