I'm all for spam filters, but if you intend to send email submissions you should set up your system to accept a reply.
I just dumped this guy's sub in the "Recycle Bin" and said the heck with it. I'm sure three months from now he'll write back asking why he hasn't received a reply.

I imagine it's a lot worse if the filter simply denies delivery rather than sorting the message into a junk mail folder. And this happened after the guy had directly sent a message to you? Talk about a stupid spam filter. In my opinion, any filter that doesn't even let you look at the author and subject line of the e-mail is a distinct liability. It only takes a few moments to glance over your junk mail folder and pick out what is not in fact junk, and can save a lot of lost communication.

Agreed. That's very frustrating. Paradox does not accept e-subs, but I've had the same thing happen once or twice when trying to respond to e-mailed queries from people seeking clarification of the guidelines, an update on the status of a submission, etc.
Chris
P.S. Ed, I've been meaning to send you a copy of the latest issue of Paradox which includes the AJM ad, and I keep completely spacing out and forgetting to do so. [xx(] You'll get it soon, though, I promise.

Just out of curiosity was it an Earthlink email address. There was atime when I sold books on eBay and Amazon.com, and every Earthlink email address I responded to, my email was returned with a note that I was a suspected spammer, but if I wanted to have the email address owner decide, I would have to fill out a form. Oy! it drove me bonkers.

Robert,
You have me wondering. The email address I use to respond doesn't match the email address that submissions come in by. Maybe if I respond using a return adress that matches the address the submission was sent to I wouldn't get blocked.
Chris,
I look forward to receiving a copy of Paradox. I hope you received the one I sent you. I went ahead and placed an ad for Paradox in the new issue as well. Since my circulation is probably a bit smaller than yours I figure I owe you a few.

I did get the copy you sent me and the ad looked great; thanks! I've been so busy lately I haven't had a chance to read anything in the issue yet, but it looks like a good one, and I look forward to reading it.
Back on the subject of this thread, replying using the same email address messages are sent to might help sometimes, but not all the time. The troubles I mentioned having above occurred even though I was replying using the same email address to which the queries had been sent.

About a month later Jed will send me a private email letting me know what happened (it's almost always rejection-related, so it's not like I'm sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for his communique).
I have made repeated requests to my provider about this, including sending them copies of the rejected message that specifically state it's because of their filters. No change so far. I must be the only one.
