I have mentioned in some threads here that I hike and build hiking trails. My Dad and I maintain a section of the Buckeye Trail, a 1400+ mile hiking trail that winds around Ohio.
When a logging company clearcut timber within our section last year, Dad and I rerouted the trail to a safe location. To our surprise we were awarded the Buckeye Trail Association's 2007 Trail Star Award.

Hiking and building trail helps me in many ways. The exercise is just what the doctors want me to do. The physical labor of building trail has helped my arthritic spine to the point that I no longer need medication for the pain. I have also used some of my trail experiences in my writing. It is a good salve for writers block as well.

Go Hike!

Congrats on the award! I love hiking on trails too, but I think maintaining them sounds like too much work for me...
