Just got word that the short story "Azieran: The Breaking of Hell's Bones" was accepted by 1018 Press's Black Sails. This story was originally written for Armand's Clash of Steel Magazine: Pirates, and seemed to be on its way towards acceptance there before Carnifex had its troubles, so this one is dedicated to Armand. Thanks pal!

Awesome to hear that! Yes, it would have been accepted for the Clash of Steel Magazine so I'm glad you got it out there. I can attest that it is a great story and obviously another publisher thought so as well.

Might have to retitle this thread "Azieran acceptances" instead of "Brag".

I'll talk to Dave. lol

The book comes out sometime in May, I believe, to coincide with the final Pirates of the Caribbean movie. I think another SFReader Forum member made it in as well. Dave Hardy, I think, so I'll be looking forward to reading his tale.

The closing date for submissions on that one is April 1st, right? There's still time for a few more SFReader locals to get their tails in gear. ;)

Way to go, Chris! Way things have been going, I'd imagine half the literate world must have heard about Azieran by now!

Congratz :)

So will all the Azieran shorts be collected into an anthology at some point?

Thanks all,

CrystalWizard

At some point, hopefully. Right now, just trying to get my works out there to build an audience and interest in the Azieran world. I have a few things planned for the future; an eventual collection of short stories is one of them, but I don't see it in the near future. If I continue to get the stories out there in other anthos and continue to build an audience, then maybe... The only way I'd release one now is if I had a publisher that really knew how to push and market the work; I don't want to put something out that's not going to sell, as it would be pointless. Since I'm not pitching a collection to a publisher, and they don't come knocking, it'll be a ways off.

Congratulations on another sale, Christopher.
Don't wait too long on that collection though, you want people to say "I see this guy everywhere, I should check it out!" nor "I remember I used to read a lot of stuff from him back in the day . . .I wonder where he's been?". I'd put the book half-way together, update it periodicly and pitch it after you've made a couple of good sales, every time you've made a couple of good sales. That way some enterprising publisher, realising you are about to get major ink/electrons, might time a small run to be out when your other work gets out-- A mention in the bio collum in a place like Black Gate, or a paid add accompanyng a story in a place like Weird Tales (both markets you could reasonably place in, someday) could make for a successful small press offering, if you had it together in advance (neither runs stories real close to the acceptance date, most pro markets don't)
Something to think about, anyways.

The way I always think is that a short story collection will sell maybe half of what your novel will sell. If you don't have any novels published then you're not likely to sell many copies of a short story collection.

Personally, I'm going to publish a few novels first, then publish a collection

Congratulations!

The last two markets I subbed my pirate story to closed not long after I subbed it. So I think I'll just leave it for my short story collection.
