CW has pointed me toward you for review guidelines, as I am working on a couple for her and want to make them work for a variety of sites, including SF Reader. Can you give me some more information about what you are looking for in a review?
Thanks, Bryan
Hey Bryan, lovely! Have a look at the review guidelines in the main site www.sfreader.com/review_guide.asp, but in brief:
- I'm looking for some substance, so at least ~300 words or so -- this doesn't mean you can't write more (many of our reviews go up to 1200-1500 words, and that's fine) and it doesn't necessarily mean 300 is always enough -- it's just sort of a ballpark minimum that you can say anything meaningful about the book in.
- take a stance -- tell me what you think of the book.
- not too much in the way of a plot summary - a bit of description is good of course, as a teaser and may be necessary to establish what you want to talk about, but avoid spoilers at all costs
- even if you don't like the book - some people might. Make a mention of who you think the book is aimed at, and/or who you think would enjoy the book.
- the best thing of course -- go read a bunch of the reviews. we now have close to a thousand. See what you like about some, what you don't like.
then just send me a couple samples. pete at s f reader dot com and cheers! ____________ "The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers." --Thomas Jefferson www.creativeguypublishing.com | | Back to Top

We have new reviewers -- make 'em feel welcome, and a special added bonus of a sort of shared feature with thefootnote.net -- they're running Adam's interview with Cory Doctorow, and we're running the review, and you can click back and forth for hours...
Little Brother by Cory Doctorow, reviewed by Adam P Knave Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein, reviewed by Stuart Clark Fleet of Worlds by Larry Niven and Edward M. Lerner, reviewed by Steve Davidson New Frontier: After the Fall by Peter David, reviewed by C Dennis Moore Deadhouse Gates by Steven Erikson, reviewed by Howard von Darkmoor Changeling by Delia Sherman, reviewed by Jennifer Hairfield

A lot of comparisons with the good old days, funnily enough. Also, the space opera Space Vulture is reviewed and one of the authors, Gary K Wolf is interviewed on SFReader as well. Gary discusses his collaboration with childhood friend John Myers on the new book -- two best friends from Iowa, one who grew up to create Roger Rabbit, one who became Archbishop of Newark.
New reviews:
*Space Vulture by Gary K. Wolf and (Archbishop) John J. Myers, reviewed by Steve Davidson *Moon Age Daydream by Shaun Von Dragen, reviewed by Adam P Knave *Dying to Live by Kim Paffenroth, reviewed by Ray Wallace *The Fall of Hyperion by Dan Simmons, reviewed by S.J. Higbee *Memories of Ice by Steven Erikson, by Howard von Darkmoor *The Greenstone Grail by Amanda Hemingway, reviewed by C. Dennis Moore

So...new reviews for April 24!
- The Electric Church by Jeff Somers, reviewed by Jennifer Hairfield
- Dark Furies edited by Vincent Sneed, reviewed by Jeff Edwards
- House of Chains by Steven Erikson, reviewed by Howard von Darkmoor, and continuing to deconstruct the Malazan epic (which is as good as he says, folks)
- The Condemned by David Jack Bell, reviewed by Ray Wallace
- Star Gate by Andre Norton, reviewed by Edward McKeown
- The Children of Hurin by J. R.R. Tolkien, reviewed by Lyn Perry
please join me in welcoming Lyn and Ed to our stable of reviewers (nah, I can't manage a horse joke this early in the day) and let them know in the comments or on the forum if you enjoyed their reviews (and the other reviewers could probably use a smile and a kind word as well...) ____________ "The man who reads nothing at all is better educated than the man who reads nothing but newspapers." --Thomas Jefferson www.creativeguypublishing.com | | Back to Top
