| Posted 9/26/2005 6:24 AM (GMT -4) |   | Did anyone happen to catch Justice League this Saturday? We were flipping through the channels and up it popped at 9:00 our time. The Justice League plane, half full of heroes I've never heard of (they must be newer ones) gets sucked through a hole near the North Pole...
And wham, they're in Skartaris! It was pretty swell seing Morgan the Warlord and all the gang in animated form. Did anyone else catch it?
Back to back with this was another episode where the Justice League ran into the preserved body of The Viking Prince, an old s and s hero from the early days of the comics.
Makes me wonder, since the Viking Prince was so prominently featured, if DC might plan on reprinting the stories. I've heard about them but never read them.

Yup. Heck, about the only regular scheduled shows are watch are cartoons - Justice League Unlimited, Family Guy, American Dad and the Venture Brothers.
I liked all the still art they used when Grodd was telling the story of the Viking Prince. It was really different, a great change of pace!

I thought the voice actors for Travis Morgan and Deimos were great.
I don't understand why Jennifer seemed to have a Eastern European accent, though. Some of the pronounciations for things Skartarian were a little odd, too. But these are quibbles.

I didn't catch it--I haven't had a chance to watch cartoons since June.
The datum I was going to add was that Justice League Unlimited gets to use any character who has ever appeared in a Justice League comic (subject to restrictions of other licenses), and they try to use lots of them. Plus the creative team kicks butt. I don't know the actual number of the Viking Prince or Warlord guest appearance in JL, but I'm pretty sure there was one. Or two. | | Back to Top | | |

Howard, DC is about to start a new line of black and white trade paperbacks, similar to the Marvel Essential books, where they can reprint pretty much anything fans want to see in inexpensive volumes, so Viking Prince, Warlord, maybe even Claw, Stalker, and the gang aren't out of the realm of possibility. I've sort of been expecting a Viking Prince Archives since DC has published other Joe Kubert volumes including Enemy Ace and Sgt Rock, but so far no go. Of course the Archive's are 50 buck hardbacks so those of us who just want to read the stories would probably be better off with the trades.

Yes, the episode where Booster Gold was doing crowd control while the mainstream members were having their butts handed to them was kind of funny.

I never understood the tusks on Marvel's Conan's helmet, either. Nor that three disc necklace he wore. Wouldn't that thing rattle a bit when he was jumping over walls trying to burglarize in stealth?

No matter, though. It was pretty cool. My guess is that the whole look of the flashback was based on art from the original stories, which are several decades old at this point, back when there weren't as many nit-picking "experts" like ourselves to tear everything apart...

You think? So, Luthor is talking to an intelligent ape from a hidden city of apes in another dimension. He finds himself fighting a man from another planet with super powers on an almost daily basis. He knows people who have come from Greek mythology. Is he really going to be so skeptical about Odin? With all the crazy things going on in that series, he'd be wise to believe almost anything can be true. | | Back to Top | | |

I guess the wife and I hit the suspension of disbelief wall after the talking gorilla mentioned Odin matter-of-factly, and you hit yours when you saw the wings on the helmet--someone else probably hit it when the gorilla actually started talking, or maybe when all the weirdos in suits sat down around the table...
