For those that don't live in Oregon, this is a great excuse to take a vacation in a marvelous state. Right in the middle of July when Crater Lake is waiting, the Rogue River Gorge and trips down the Rapids are available, Salmon and other fish are around and the weather is fantastic. You couldn't ask for a better place to vacation and a better time to do it.

With my wife newly returned to work after her maternity leave, I'm afraid it's impossible for me to travel much further than the grocery store.  Which is no good!  I'd quite enjoy attending this event.  Hopefully there will be more such events in the days to come?

In addition to the fun of the event itself, I love Oregon.  It's been far too long since I've toured the Tillamook cheese factory.  :-)

Good Lord! See what happens when I take a few days away from this board?

Oregon has some spectacular things to see only minutes from Portland. A trip down the Columbia Gorge on the scenic highway at sunrise is never to be forgotten. That same trip could involve a zip across the river at Biggs, into Washington and a visit to the Sam Hill replica of Stonehenge, high on a cliff overlooking the Columbia. Five miles away, in the same middle of nowhere is a world-class art museum, Maryhill, with the largest collection of Rodin in the world. Stop by the Charburger at Cascade Locks for lunch --- Oregon's best and sloppiest burger for over 30 years. Great Wild West atmosphere.
Got a few bucks? The Columbia Gorge Hotel was a favorite hang-out for Rudolph Valentino, with beautiful surrounding grounds and a bridge over the waterfall that tumbles to the bottom of the gorge far below. The gorge also has some of the best windsailing in the world, and on a sunny weekend there are stretches with hundreds of brightly colored sails dotting the river, darting back and forth in a frenetic ballet.

That's just in one direction, and a couple of hours drive.

I've sent Powell's 4 11x17 full color posters to advertise the signing.

Now, let's hope all the authors show up and everyone has a good time.

:) I wanted to use photos of the four authors, but the ones I was sent were all much too small, so they just have everyone's names.

Post here when it's over, if you guys would, and let us all know how it went.
