Sit tight, John. There's a general conspiracy keeping me from making the progress I want (having to do with this concept people call "free time" of which I am woefully unacquainted). I plan on making the announcement here on this forum and giving it a few weeks before I let Duotrope and Ralan know (though they might still find out without my help). Truth be told, one of your forum-mates already has a story sold to me (if he didn't sell it between my reading it for Black Dragon, White Dragon and now).

Heck, I might just go ahead and add to my workload sooner rather than later. Let me ponder this for a few days.

Hey Rob,

What's happening with this project? Still planning an announcement for this month? I've got something I'd love to submit and I know many others do too.

That is correct - 1 March 2008 is the release target date.  Hmm . . . . perhaps an advertisement for a blood-and-guts antho timely placed in conjunction with a newly released blood-and-guts antho might be the way to go . . . . eh? ;-)

My understanding is the Flashing Swords antho hits the shelves in February or thereabouts. I'll be putting out the call for subs around then, with the book being ready around October or so.

Ha! Nice antho theme and title, Rob. There should be another antho mighty similar to that hitting the streets just about that same time . . .

Sounds fun, and the uncomplicated guidelines (if you keep them as simple as it seems they'll be) should net you a good variety of stories and be a big hit with readers...

I heard Ricasso Press is getting an unpublished Leiber short for this volume.

...What, we can't *start* rumors?

I just fielded a question about Ricasso Press' next anthology project and figured I could share the answer. Even though the current projects are not yet out the door [bangs head on wall] I might as well let you know the direction the next book is going to take.

Through Blood and Iron is going to be a book about action, plain and simple. As long as blades fly, I want to see it. Where a sense of magic was crucial to plot motion in both Black Dragon, White Dragon and Magic & Mechanica, there doesn't need to be any for your story to fit this time around. It's also going to be an ideal spot for those sword & sorcery stories itching for a home (other than Flashing Swords).

So fire up those keyboards. I should get a formal announcement together for February or thereabouts. Consider this the SFReader members-only notification to have something ready.
