I rarely write dragon stories, but I remembered a short old one, in which the dragon is a cross between SF and fantasy, I'm pretty sure.  So I've submitted Rocky Falls Park, which does have some violence in it.

I couldn't resist registering on the forum, and then promptly sending a submission. I don't know why I registered, of course, other than this seems a good sort of place to be registered at.

It seems to be a good forum because it IS a good forum ;). Where there's smoke there's fire!

Hi, Heron here.

I have a question on the 'Black Dragon, White Dragon' anthology 'no violence' caveat.

If by no violence, meaning zero harm comes to any characters either physical, mental, or emotional, there's not much left for conflict.  Falling off a cliff, getting a cut, getting knocked across a stone floor, going through a painful metamophosis, then being skewered by a sword would invalidate a story.  confused

Heron,

Re-read the post. Mr. Santa just doesn't want to be grossed out with overly descriptive phrases of the violence.

Where was that question again?

Seriously, though, the guidelines do not say this is a Ghandi-esque collection of non-violence. The exact wording is below, but for clarification: the violence should not be graphic. I'm not looking for Kill Bill-level action. There will undoubtedly be violence in these stories, and I have accepted several with it playing a major factor in the resolution of the plot's main conflict. What they do not do is splatter the pages with gore. Had they, regardless of the quality of the writing, they would have gotten bounced.

Regarding scenes with violence, from the guidelines...

"Suggest them to me; don't describe them in minute detail. I understand that when the knight is going toe-to-toe with the dragon there will be violence. What I am suggesting is that my preference is for tales that remark on "the sword slicing through the dragon's armor and spilling its fluids" and not 'the putrefying stench of its bursting viscera assaulting the knight's senses as bile splashes his face and arms.' "

Hi,

I've never submitted anything before so I have a couple of questions-and I'm having a little difficulty finding the answer on the site because I'm new here.  blush First.  Does there have to be anything special in the heading of the e-mail?  What information needs to be included with the ms and should it be on a seperate page?  Do you want the word count included?  What rights would I retain to my story, should it be accepted, and what rights belong to Ricasso Press?

Oh, and this may sound stupid, but I've never formatted anything in rtf.  How is it different from a regular word document? Hmm..maybe you should just refer me somewhere so I get all the margins and paragraph indents and such correct.  I thought I saw it somewhere, but now I can't find it.

Eagerly awaiting your response,  ;-)

Be patient with me.  Like any good story, I'm a work in progress.

Ok, I looked around some more and finally found it.  I hadn't thought to look in the other anthology thread, but there it was. lol

There's sooo much to see and do on this site...I keep getting lost, and sidetracked. blush

No worries. Any time you need a question answered, whether related to this anthology or not, there's always someone around who can answer it.

Did you get that rtf-formatting figured out?

I've noticed that.  :-)   This is a very friendly place.

I'm not sure it I got the formatting right.  I followed the directions as posted--at least I tried to.  I'm a relative newbie as far as submitting goes and this is my first time to an anthology or using rtf. (Wow, that's a lot of new things. ;-) )  I did my best to format the story correctly and now will wait to see if I succeeded.)
