Haven't heard of S. L. Gilbow? I'm not surprised. Her first story was published in last month's FANTASY & SCIENCE FICTION. But I think that's something that will change. "Red Card" in the Feb issue (The March issue is now out) is one of those sociological SF/Horror stories you just don't see any more. Like Silverberg's "To See the Invisible Man", this story takes life and changes it just a bit, but in a way that really makes you see life in a new way. The idea before "Red Card" is that a lottery allows certain people to have the right to shoot anyone they want, guilt and punishment free. The people who win this lottery get red cards. The story is about Linda who has a red card and when she decides to shoot her husband. Linda is a weak type of woman but she finally has enough of Larry's foolin' around and pow! I won't say anything more. That's the set up. S. L. Gilbow takes it from after she shoots him to a shocker of an ending which I won't ruin. Check it out if you can find last month's issue. I'm looking forward to S. L.'s next story.
