More perfect, but far from absolutely perfect.
Obama's a charismatic speaker, but I can't stand his politics.
Clinton, I simply can't stand. Maybe I should cut her some slack though; maybe all those corkscrew landings and bullet-dodging have caused psychological damage for which she is not responsible.
McCain. I'm a Republican and I don't like him either. Since I live in New York state, it really doesn't matter who I vote for; the Democratic candidate will take this state. I'm seriously considering a write-in - just for the heck of it.
I am really sick of presidential elections where both parties seem to be trying to field the worst possible candidate they can find.

Stupid is readily available on both sides, or for that matter from the top, bottom or inter-dimensional non-spatial vectors.

Not written in stone, but just historical trend if I'm recalling my talking head pundits clearly.

No, now, this is true--and I do agree. And thus I still hope.
There are certain sights that seem more tightly bound to BO's side of the party: Huffington post, Daily KOS, moveon.org. They form a collection or a group giving a snapshot into the mindset of that wing of the party.
So from that point of view Beck is just one op-ed writer generating buzz on her sight. But in so much as the suspiscion is that she represents a demographic (i.e. it's not her personal blog) seen in those areas then it ='s amazement and frustration.
As far as a brush painting everyone, of course not. It becomes more a matter of strategic influence and how oppents take such statements rather than the "whole picture".
I am chronically unafflicted with white guilt or success angst while remaining fairly committed to the ideals of social justice. Which often means I'm bipolar when looking at my own views as presented to me by my party of history.
I'm probablly not alone in being nuanced in my opinions (or opinated in my nuances) and would do well to remember that.

I'm waiting to see who the running mates are before I completely commit to anyone-- I'm hoping McCain will choose Condie Rice. She was too smart to run for president and may actually be qualified to run the country.
Mike Given McCain's age (though I think his mental accumen just fine) and non "neo-conservative" maverick conservative image I would cross party lines and vote for him if he chose Rice, Powel, or Lieberman as a running mate. Not Mick Rommeny.
Something the last successful dem president said...oh ya: "triangulate from the middle."
This is a race not about the base, but for a sprint to the swing vote independents. My party's primary is firmly in the grasp of unrealistic idealistic sticking true to the purity of their hope instead of truth on the ground.
I love 'em. But I want to send them to their room.
I know HC is polarizing. I know. I won't get into defending her and could possibly be made to look stupid if I did, but that's where I lean. But against McCain I think she's the only one who can win.
All I keep remembering is John Kerry. The guy came from an affluent family, defferment city but he volunteers to go to Vietnam. He doesn't take a ship board job but gets down and dirty in a swift boat. He sees action and is awarded medals for his valor under fire. Meanwhile Bush Jr can't even complete a whole tour in the Air Guard. In Texas.
Yet by the time the campaign was over people thought him more patriotic and a better choice for comander and chief.
By the time November rolls around McCain will be the maverick moderate independent who bucked George Bush (even if it's note true) and Obama would be the fringe canidate who hangs out with American Terrorists, has a militant radical for a preacher and who thinks anyone who disagrees with him on immigration, the 2nd amendment, and religion must do so because they're uneducated and bitter and whose wife is ashamed of her country--except when they vote for her husband.
Not saying HC wouldn't have one hell of a fight. Not at all--but she'd be fighting from the perception of center (even if it weren't true) while Obama will be painted (often by his own words) as elitest and fringe. Not ready for prime time.
Machavallian sensibility people.

True, the largest block of voters in the US are white men.
Hillary is a woman, and for a measurable number of people, this disqualifies her.
Barak Obama is half black. To a larger number of people, this disqualifies him.
My wife is a black woman. Her head should be exploding at this point. Fortunately, she is smart enough to be unaffected by others' expecrtations of her voting.
And Mike, in all fairness, neither party has any shortage of mental cases. You yourself could draw up a GOP list with little trouble-- plenty to go around :)

Cringe as I watch my part of choice rip into each other. But wow. I hope that BHO never gets this op-ed writer on his staff. Talk about a way not to win an election. I'm sure B is way, way too smart to go down this scroched earth path to failure--but someone needs to explain Machavallian politics to the simpleton who wrote this article:

To put it bluntly, the next president will be elected by them: the outcome of Tuesday's primary will depend on whether they go for Hillary or Obama, and the outcome of the general election will depend on whether enough of them vote for McCain. A lot of them will: white men cannot be relied on, as all of us know who have spent a lifetime dating them. And McCain is a compelling candidate, particularly because of the Torture Thing. As for the Democratic hope that McCain's temper will be a problem, don't bet on it. A lot of white men have terrible tempers, and what's more, they think it's normal.
If Hillary pulls it out in Pennsylvania, and she could, and if she follows it up in Indiana, she can make a credible case that she deserves to be the candidate; these last primaries will show which of the two Democratic candidates is better at overcoming the bias of a vast chunk of the population that has never in its history had to vote for anyone but a candidate who could have been their father or their brother or their son, and who has never had to think of the president of the United States as anyone other than someone they might have been had circumstances been just slightly different.
Hillary's case is not an attractive one, because what she'll essentially be saying (and has been saying, although very carefully) is that she can attract more racist white male voters than Obama can. Nonetheless, and as I said, she has a case.
I spent the weekend listening to one commentator after another saying that Obama has it locked up, it's a done deal. I dunno. Hillary is the true whack-a-mole and if she survives on Tuesday, it will be a whole new ballgame. And it will be all because of white men. Plus ca change.[/quote]
