i'm preparing for querying in a few
months and wondered how many
of you use a different more "professional"
email as a contact?

i am undecided and wanted to get
some feedback. i like my personal email,
which would be "xiaotien@".

or i could create something with
my first and last name / variation.

i hate dealing with an extra email,
but wondered if it's the better way
to go? thanks!

I'd be surprised if half the recipients even noticed the address.

jeff, i meant for snail mail queries.

i haven't checked to see how many agents
all use electronic submissions?

i know a few still hold out for snail mail?
but i'd still like to include an email for those.

Ah, I see. Yes, give them an e-mail address. In your case, I'd be concerned about typos being a little more likely, but I don't think your address is going stop an agent from contacting you. As for appearances, I doubt most looking at your name would have a clue whether it's professional or not. But if you're concerned, it should be trivial to get a "better" address. You could even forward it to your regular account.

I've got a seperate account as well, I think its best to use something with your real name or initials.

I think I remember Miss Snark once advising that a writer's e-mail address should incorporate their real name. And I'm inclined to agree. It does look more professional.

I hate to be in the minority (and it may be moot seeing as how my email address uses my real name) but I couldn't imagine I would care one way or the other about a person's email address unless it was ilovemonkeybums or something to that effect.

rob, haha!

i'm a bit leery still.

other than spelling worries, maybe
i'll stick with xiaotien as my handle.

i couldn't get a firstlast name thing, without
it being horrificially long (all the simple
first last were taken).

i did make cindy.writer as a handle.

what do you think? kind of long, but clear
enough, no?

happy with.

surname.cindy@

i do like cindy.writer@ but i think sticking
with my name is perhaps best?
