Right now I am about to finish Book 5 in Huff's "Blood Books" series and totally enjoying it.  In fact I have fallen hopelessly in love with Henry Fitzroy, the 450-year old vamp in this series.  And Book 4 had one of the best endings I have ever read in a dark urban fantasy novel.

Anyone else a fan of this series?  I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

Also, I see Huff has written about 5 series.  Are they all dark urban fantasy like the "Blood Books" or are some trad fantasy?  I know the "Smoke" series involves Tony from the "Blood Books" and is dark urban fantasy, but I know nothing about the others.

I ask because I am not a trad fantasy fan; I'm more of an urban fantasy fan.

Thanks for your help with this!  smilewinkgrin

I've read both her more modern fantasies. The rest do look more like those set in pseudo medieval times. I've not tried them.

I loved Victory. Her name was great. Her disability was a nice and unusual touch. The books are written well though one had a cover I couldn't look at. It creped me out! I'm not sure if I liked Henry or not. I did love the books. I want more!

I hear there is a Canadian tv show based on the Victory books called Blood Lines. I want to find it and see how it is.

There are mini-reviews of most or all her books at www-users.cs.york.ac.uk/susan/sf/books/h/huff.htm which should help you decide which you're likely to like.

I don't myself like 'dark', I'm not too keen on 'urban', and I seldom fall in love with vampires of any age. But I quite liked the urban Keeper series: it's light and humerous (a bit too insistently so for my taste). The other Huff I've read is the first of the Quarters series: mediocre traditional fantasy.

Thanks for the link...wow!  Makes it really simple.

I just heard this morning too from a group friend at Goodreads that the Summoning (Keeper) series is urban fantasy and a good one too.

Great!  More books to buy...makes me a happy woman!  smilewinkgrin

I'm not a fan of some of her books, but I really have enjoyed her military fiction. Her Valor's Choice and The Better Part of Valor are great reads. A third book in this series is due out this year. Huff is a skillful writer who can manage more than one genre. I like the characters and clever plots in the Valor series.
