I have just started the 5th novel in this series, and I must say I am having a great time with these novels.  I think so far the 4th one (Dead to the World) is my favorite.  What I am really enjoying is how each one is a little different.  I can see some formula work in the plotting, but for the most part, the twists and turns each character takes from one novel to the next is a surprise.

Is anyone else a Charlaine Harris fan?  Which is your favorite novel in this series?  What do you like best about this series?

I'm a huge Harris fan! These books are practically a blueprint for how to do a paranormal romance that rocks! I reread them multiple times, often right after completing a first read, I buy them in hardback. Top-flight stuff.

My wife has read them all, finishing the last one a few weeks ago. Instead of returning it to the library, she reordered the rest of them and read the whole series again. She's read me more passages from these books than any others--and that's saying something. Doesn't really sound like my cup of tea, however.

I don't think so. Thanks to my wife's enthusiasm, I know all the plots, subplots, and relationships, and I've heard many samples of her writing style, plus I've heard all the best lines.

Oh, well if you've let it all get snerked, maybe not.

I do the same thing with my husband when it comes to the Jim Butcher "Harry Dresden" novels.  I will fall off the sofa laughing at a certain passage, so he will ask me what's up.  But when I read it to him, he just stares at me like "What's wrong with her?"  The humor completely escapes him.  Guess he'll have to read them himself to see what I see.  Or maybe not.  smilewinkgrin

I never thought about reading him the Charlaine Harris novels...which are so hillarious they also make me laugh out loud.  I'll have to try that, and see what he says.

Oh, I've heard a lot of passages from those, too, but I never have to prompt her to tell me why she's laughing. :-) Were my to-be-read shelves not packed to the gills, I'd probably give the Dresden series a try.

You should add it to your TBR list.  It really is one of the best dark urban fantasy series out there.  Butcher is an excellent writer.  ;-)
