It's the first volume of a six-part modern re-telling of the Ramayana. It's faithful to the Sanskrit original, while using the style of modern genre fantasy.
I don't usually read big multi-volume epics, but the Ramayana is a favorite of mine. I'd read the very condensed RK Narayan version and loved it so when I heard about the Ramayana by an SF/Fantasy author I was intrigued. I had to get used to a more leisurely pace (like I said, I don't read multi-volume series much) but it paid off. Some very cool scenes of black sorcery, vicious intrigue, and lot's o' demon-slaying.
Banker mixes in modern colloquial English with Hindi & Sanskrit words. I like Indian-English so to me this was quite a treat.
Anybody else read any of these?

I've been curious about this series for a couple of years now but have just had too much on my plate to investigate.
Keep us posted. If there's enough blood and thunder it might make a nice review for SwordAndSorcery.org.
best, Howard
