Let me first say that there's nothing wrong with the forum board as it is.

But this is a sci-fi/fantasy forum and it doesn't have half the additions of user tools that some of my motorcycle forums have.

You cannot post images here via photobucket or similar.
(Or at least I cannot?)
You can only link images, it seems.

There aren't many smileys.

There is no spellchecker in the post box.

Thumbnail images don't seem to work either.

You cannot imbed a youtube live play vid.
Or a news vid etc.

There is no live 24 chat line or Shoutbox.

Over at www.advrider.com  we can do all of the above and more and have about a hundred smileys to choose from.
Having a range of smileys to choose from is cool. Some are very funny. Gives a much better range of displayed emotion than a simple cheesy grin or a sad face.

I would have thought that a sff forum would have the latest gadgets and thingys to play with and the latest in forum technology?

And hey all...the midnight blue option for the forum board is so much better than white!!!

The forum software is pretty old. When I purchased it (it's a COTS) a few years ago, there was an update on the horizon that promised a lot more features. Unfortunately, the update never happen, the software died, and now we're stuck.

Choosing new forum software is easy, porting over all the messages and members is not. So any move to a new platform would most likely mean starting all over again.

Right now I'm in the process of updating the main site. The CMS I've chosen includes a forum. Maye I'llset it up so members can take a look and see what they think.

It's a bastard when the company goes out of business isn't it?

It's best to stick with the big forum website suppliers like PHPB and vBulletin.

Cheers: Jaq.

PHPB and vBulletin were in PHP using a MySQL backend, while my host is a Windows based server, so I needed and ASP or .Net solution using SQL Server 2000. Hence the DotNetBB purchase.....
