What with all the recent hoo-ha over 300 and the current popularity of all things Spartan, now would be a good time to mention Paul Cartledge’s book Thermopylae: The Battle That Changed the World, an excellent account of the battle and its continuing resonance throughout the world

Sounds like something I'd like to look at. While I'm at it, can I recommend "A War Like No Other," by Victor Davis Hanson. This is a book of the Pelopennisian war, when the victors of the Persian War, Athens and Sparta, went to war with each other.

A very grim, painful part of history to read about. And highly revolent to todays current political situation.

Seems I read this Cartledge book a few years ago, or maybe it was another about the battle. Either way, interesting stuff.
