So, supposing one wrote a conte cruel in a non-traditional fantasy setting centred around a plot that could give small children nightmares, then submitted it to an anthology and was not accepted, where would one submit it next?

And, supposing the main character takes cyanide at the end of the story, would it be wise for the author to change that ending before submitting?

I hope I'm not the only one wondering this! eyes

(P.S. Congrats to all the Age of Blood and Snow acceptees! I can't wait to read the anthology--it sounds like it's going to have a great collection!)

Don't I know that one? I have bunches of stories for themed anthologies that are growing virtual mold on my hard drive. Sometimes they just don't have an appropriate market until another one comes along.

However, pessimism aside, I'd keep plugging away at the darker markets and see if it strikes a chord.

I'd change 'em, personally. Make them either more general or change them to fit the new place I wanted to submit them to.

Your question is misleading, btw. I thought for sure the question that was on everyone's mind was 'where can I get good, cheap chocolate now that the delivery trucks are paying 5 bucks a gallon for gas."

I would browse the dark fiction markets at Ralan's. There was a listing I read not too long ago that sounded like a prospect, but I can't remember which one it was. shakehead

That's easy. Next time my husband orders a magazine for me, tell him he has to pay in Belgian chocolate. rofl
Of course melting may be an issue.

Never mind the fact that I don't think Lulu would forward that payment on to me ;)

Ha-ha! CW's question made me read TA's reply as "browse the dark CHOCOLATE markets!" Now there's something I wouldn't mind going through the slush pile for!
