Arthur C. Clarke's Childhood's End.

Janrae Frank
I have no skeletons in my closet, they are all hanging from the yardarm.

Once there were three brothers, Brandrahoon the vampire, Isranon called the Dawnhand, speaker to spirits, and Waejonan the Accursed, first of sa’necari. Isranon defied his brothers and was destroyed, his descendants forced into the darkness.

Tough one. The best I can think of off the top of my head is "More than Human" by Theodore Sturgeon. It's an older book, which might mean that the "science" isn't up to date, but it's a classic, well written novel.

"Hellstrom's Hive" by Frank Herbert was nice and disturbing.

Peter F Hamilton's "Night's Dawn" trilogy is a sprawling space opera with one faction, called Edenists, who are humans that have evolved a collective consciousness and resolve everything by mental consensus.

Plus it's just a kick-ass set of books. Really long, though.

Check out my story "Cold Snap" in Lords of Justice from Carnifex Press. It's an anthology of kick-ass super hero novellas.

"Stranger in a Strange Land" is the subtle version of collective consciousness, perhaps closer to a shared philosophy.

Asimov's later Foundation stories got a little wacky - and the three done by the Killer Bs were...odd. Gaia consciousness and all that. If you're into it, well, it's probably good. I just thought it was silly.

Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead both feature alien races that have a hive-type collective consciousness. Are you specifically looking for human collective consciousness?
