I committed the mistake of writing a piece of humorous creative nonfiction dealing with the hardships of restoring an old car, and then tried to find a place to sell the piece...  Guess what, there's no Ralan or Duotrope for this kind of stuff, and most automotive magazines don't give submissions guidelines.
 
So, anyone have any suggestions - either on where to send it, or on where to do the research?

I'm afraid I am clueless about cars Gus.

Don't own one myself.
Do you have a local city/state car mag?
Email and ask how much for contributions.

You could also type car magazines or car webzines into google and check out different ones.
I know all the bike mags and webzines in most western countries...so I've always got somewhere to send stories and articles to.
It helps that I'm on many motorcycle forums around the world also.

Go walk through the magazine section of a book store, pull every car related magazine off the shelf, flip open to the masthead (first page usually) and write down the contact information.

Then write that magazine and tell them you would like to know what their submission guidelines are but haven't been able to locate them.

Never meddle in the affairs of a wizard unless you are soggy and hard to light!

Another suggestion...

While at the bookstore...pull a new copy of the Writer's Market down and look at it. I'm pretty sure they have an "auto" section. Just remember, the info is more than likely out of date since it's gathered about a year before publication. That will give you a place to start though. And usually the website is listed too.

Good luck with finding a place for it.

Some makes of car have magazines devoted to them: if that applies to yours, they might be interested. Alternatively, other publications focus on classic cars. I suggest that either of these might prove to be more receptive to such a piece than the usual car mags, which tend to focus on new developments.
