Anyone have any good suggestions on how to start a subscriber mailing list? That is, hypothetically, if I were to develop a subscriber base and send out a daily e-mailing of micro-fiction (like Flashshot or EDF), how would I go about doing that? Are there any free services available? What about those annoying ads? How do you get folks to sign up initially? Etc., etc., etc. lol

I'm having the same problem. I want to make a mailing list without using a database (I have my website on wordpress which is much like
blogger)
The best way to do it seems to be a yahoo group. I also found a website, I think feed blitz which should do the same thing but I couldn't start a newsletter for some reason...

Syndicate your blog with Feedburner and they'll take care of everything for you (including giving you great stats on your RSS Feed). They do EDF's e-mail.

For Wordpress users, mailing list plugin will be the best option available. Although its not a freeware but it really is worth the price, has loads of features and yet is easy to use. Check http://tribulant.com/products/view/1/wordpress-mailing-list.html for further details.
