I have the first book of a well researched and written early American gothic horror trilogy that I'm trying to find a home for. It takes place in the dark ages of American history (1600s) and involves some gruesome torture and cannibalism because that's the way it was if you are going to be honest about things.  I've completed thirteen chapters and have half the second book.  Any ideas would be helpful.

Assuming you have finished the book and not completed only 13 chapters...

Find some beta readers to give you some feedback and then once you have reacted to that start querying agents.

If it's still unfinished, finish it, leave it in a drawer for a month, edit it to death, send it out to beta readers, react to their comments and then query agents. Spend the month you are waiting working on book 2.
