Hello my fine friends,

Any books/websites containing good information about world building?

Also, I have ProFantasy's Campaign Cartographer which is excellent mapping software, my only problem is I have no idea where to begin.

Help, as always, is greatly appreciated and perhaps one day there will be a question on this incredible forum that I can answer.

What are you hoping to recreate? A few countries and cities and rivers? Islands or inland or coastal?

If I were starting something like this, I'd probably draw some rough continents, then mountains and rivers, add some islands and other miscellanious stuff, and try to decide where cities might grow (probably along rivers and the coast). Imagine how things have changed over time, and there you go. All done!

Why are you world building? Story? Gaming group? Something else? That'll have a lot to do with resource suggestion.

Patricia Wrede's Fantasy Worldbuilding Questions is an invaluable resource. You can find it on the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America website.

If you're using CC, adam, you should check the ProFantasy website for a forum and tutorials, and then maybe RPG.net since it's primarily used by gamers.

I looked at a couple of CC screenshots...seems pretty cool! If nothing else it could serve as inspiration for whatever you're writing, let alone a good model for your campaign setting.

But how flexible is it? What if your world were strange? Say a hollow world, or a "world" consisting of a giant tree?

Or a vinyl game mat and dry-erase marker, with pennies to represent the goblins? scool

But in these Internet-days, if you have flashy looking world maps on your site, you could drum up more interest in whatever it is you're doing...
