:) you're welcome and I'm glad it's working. Never trust windows. It's best to always run an image through something like Infraview. And since you have that, I suggest you stick with it.

I am begining to get a little case-sensitive myself

Eureka you have done it. jumpin Thank you both. Can't believe it was this flaming simple (I'll save all my cussing for off line)

I'll go look about the FAQ but is there an upper limit on size that accounted for my inability to post the orginal image which evidently was larger than Windows explorer said it was? With infraview I can size the damn things correctly and should not hit that barrier. Though it would have been nice if the barrier had said, "Hey dummy the file is too big" as oppossed to the blither at the top of this long agonizing thread.
Thanks for your patience. I'll go back to writing now
Wish I could buy you both a beer or something. Maybe if we ever meet at a con

Ed, please past this exact url into your browser and see if the image comes up:

http://www.sfreader.com/authorpics/cww1.jpg

Notice that nothing in that URL is capitalized.

You keep saying that the image name is CWW1.jpg, but in the url, it's cww1.jpg.

Please copy, from the http:// all the way to the .jpg, and paste that into your browsers's URL field, hit return and then tell me if you can see the image.

Well now I am truly stumped. On both my work computer (part of a big corp and totally separate from my home pc)
and home when I look at the image all I see is a tiny box with an x in it. There is no image. I used the exact language for the insertion point
Dave as it is on the bottom of the page so I clip- paste and then add CWW1.jpeg and no image appears.

Sorry to be your problem child and doubtless you are tired of this but I want to get this to where I can manage it and use my page properly
and every time I try to upload any image I am forestalled which makes using my page as my online resume an exercise in frustration. CWW1 is on the server at your end
I do not know why I cannot see it. But I am optimistic we are honing in on it. Perhaps it has to do with the dark matter between my ears.
I am sure if either of you was here with me it would take you 3 seconds of computer magic to do it.

The image you uploaded is available on the server and is located at
http://www.sfreader.com/authorpics/cww1.jpg

THAT is the URL you need to use when inserting the image into your web page.

HUH? There is no image there. You may be confusing the Ray gun revival cover with the CWW1.jpeg file I tried to add. The CWW1 image is a b/w image that has three cats on it- which of course I have no way to show you unless you send me an e-mail to send it to you.
CWW1 uploaded but when I try to insert it all I got was a small box with an X so I deleted
it- this time I will leave it so you can see.

Ed, here is the image I saw before AND the image I still see now:

VIEW IMAGE

Here is the URL where that image is at:

http://www.sfreader.com/authorpics/cww1.jpg

Is that not the image you are trying to upload?

I can see the image just fine as well Ed. Make sure your browser isn't blocking images or something if you've got the URL correct per Dave's instructions.

Image is there and displays fine. Suggest you double check the url you are for the image

Per instructions at the bottom of the page, if I upload an image called 123.jpg, the url for that image ends up being:
http://www.sfreader.com/authorpics/123.jpg

I resized it even smaller and it uploaded but then when I went to insert it all I get is a little box with an X no image but at least it uploaded this time and Dan it should be on the server it goes at the top of the page with the Cats with Wings thing. I still cannot fathom why this is not working

What is the largest size file I can upload. At least if I can get it to the site I am sure Dan can position it though I would like to be able to do this myself.

Thanks

windows in notorious for not reporting anything correctly. Can you use infraview to resave it as a .jpg at 75% compression/quality and then try to upload it?

According to infraview
14.0 x 21.6 cm; 5.5 x 8.5 inches
1.23 MB (1,292,584 Bytes)
96x96dp
I note that Windows x says 154Kb for size- not sure of why infraview says 1.2MB

thanks for trying

it's not the internet. Ok, this is something Dave will have to handle I'm afraid. How wide and how tall is cww1?

Well using Firefox I get an exciting new error message
Persits.Upload.1 error '800a0008'

At least one of the uploaded files exceeds the maximum allowed size.

/authoradmin/image-upload.asp, line 7

The file cww1 is 154K so that doesn't make much sense to me as my other files were larger than that

Sigh- why does the internet hate me?

Ed:

Firefox won't interfere with I.E., you can even load both of them at the same time AND go to the same website with both of them at the same time, but for the purposes of this test, please reboot then load nothing but Firefox.

The error is at the top of the page/string "Cannot display page error 500 ect"
ONce upon a time I could upload from this pc but not now.
I disabled Mcafee no help.
Basically whenever I try to upload it says the page is being maintained not available ect and the image
does not go.
Do you concur with trying firefox?

Note I have been able to alter text on my page just not send up images.

Reduced to screaming frustration and impotent rage
Kind regards ;-)
Ed

Firefox is another web-browser. You would launch it instead of launching I.E. and please don't launch AOL at all for this test.

go here to get firefox:

www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

After you download it and install it, please reboot your machine to clear everything out of cache.

Please do not customize it at all, just use it the way it installs by default.

Then after the machine reboots, please do not load AOL and do not load I.E. Just click on the firefox icon, and put SFReader.com into the url bar at the top. The home page should come up.

then try uploading an image with Firefox. please let me know what happens.

Kelly

Mcafee, and yes at least on AOl there is pop up blocker

Other than a bad Clint Eastwood movie I have no idea what Firefox is but I'll try anything to get this to work.

thanks

Do you have any popup blockers, fire wall, virus prevention programs or anything else like that running, Ed?

For testing purposes, would you be willing to download the latest version of Firefox and try the upload with that?

I just tried it on both IE through bellsouth DSL and through AOl and in both cases I fail at the upload stage and get the error message at the top of the page. In short I never even get to the upload stage
