It turns out Akismet was just sitting on its thumbs, waiting for me to notice it... blush So I've plugged it in, and so far so good.

Backups?  Riiight.  Thanks for the reminder that it's been awhile. turn

Thanks for all the help guys--I'll try to come up with a question more worthy of you next time!

Great--thanks both of you. I'm such a newbie to the webpage thing that it's embarrassing, and I'm always afraid to start tinkering for fear I'll gum the whole thing up.

That's what backups are for. And never write over a previous backup with a new one.

Great--thanks both of you.  I'm such a newbie to the webpage thing that it's embarrassing, and I'm always afraid to start tinkering for fear I'll gum the whole thing up.  I'm rather chicken, really.

You've given me a starting point to jump bravely off of.  hop

Akismet is the one I use. It's 100% so far in detecting spam comments...

I've had a blog up and running for a while now, but still haven't figured out how to plug in a spam filter that would do the job.  I'm getting seriously tired of wading through 100-200 spam comments for the occasional legitmate one. rolleyes

I'm looking for the kind where the commenter is prompted to type a code of letters as shown in a box.  I use wordpress, in case that makes a difference.

Thanks for any and all replies!
