He finds ways to circumvent my filters, uses a variety of identities that are evident from his bad grammar. Recently he attempted to post as me on some boards that I don't frequent, but the grammar was so bad that it was clear it was him and I had no trouble getting the admins to remove the acct. He tried to first get my publisher to drop me and then he tried to get fictionwise to stop carrying my books. He posted a review of one of my books on amazon.com in which he told me to burn in hell. I got that taken down. He got my LJ suspended at one point, but I was able to explain the situation and get it back.
It gets very tiring. I have gotten in the habit of double-checking things whenever he starts making threats again. Janrae Frank I have no skeletons in my closet, they are all hanging from the yardarm.
Once there were three brothers, Brandrahoon the vampire, Isranon called the Dawnhand, speaker to spirits, and Waejonan the Accursed, first of sa’necari. Isranon defied his brothers and was destroyed, his descendants forced into the darkness.

He just made the main accusatory post private and I think Brian Keene must have weighed in on it because Looney also accused Keene of plagiarism.
One of the serious complications seems to be that a) he's on SSI for a mental disability; b) the police who I have spoken to following numerous physical threats against myself and my daughter refuse to take it seriously; c) civil suits are very expensive.
I have reported him for TOS violations at various places and so far gotten him removed in four different places.
He has a very bad reputation with the goth community and after burning those bridges, he moved into the horror community and now he is trying to move into fantasy and science fiction. It is getting to where I can't go anyplace on the web without him showing up soon after.
I guess I was really naive about the web when I first encountered him. A friend had suggested that I join up at gothic.net in late 2003. He immediately approached me asking me to read his work. I pointed out that his grammar needed work and suggested Strunk and White. I thought that was the end of it until April of 2004 when I got a series of ugly emails from him. I fired back at him and again thought that was the end of it. Then he joined HWA on June 14th of 2004 and immediately went after me again. An editor I was courting at the time asked me "Have you seen this?" and to my utter horror, I found that he had been posting, all those months from 2003 on, across the net about me. He wrote a short story using my name for the character in which he accused me of plagiarizing him and writing fan fiction.
The problem was, and this worked in my favor, he thought I wrote horror. I don't. The only thing I had out at the point was my story from Amazons in 1979 that I had up at my website.
He emailed most of the pros at HWA bragging about what he had done to me. I left the organization because of him. He posted my unlisted phone number, which he got from the HWA directory on the web, resulting in a series of ugly phone calls. I dealt with the calls by describing the details of animal vivisections into the phone and they stopped happening.
Last September he was expelled from HWA for abusing the membership, including Ellen Datlow, who he called the foulest of names when she tried to get him to calm down.
One author got a cease and desist order against him, and he claims to have used the papers he was sent by the authorities to line the bottom of a bird cage. Janrae Frank I have no skeletons in my closet, they are all hanging from the yardarm.

However, I try to stay aware of how far things might go, and look for damage control options when it looks like he is lunging into the dirty tricks again. At one point, his cousin, his mother, and his grandmother IM'd me. He's thirty years old.
Most recently was this threat concerning the Robert E. Howard Society. That followed on the heels of him approaching my publisher on IM pretending to be me, but his bad grammar is very conspicuous, so she was not deceived. That followed on his threats on several boards where I was posting, saying he would publish the original version of the Fandom Writer to humiliate me. Sigh.
The whole thing has left a bad taste in my mouth. The police in his home town have received phone calls from me, my publisher, and my agent to no avail.
I see now that this new threat is empty harassment, but it still aggravates me.
One of the biggest problems lies in a appellate court ruling that was laid down two years ago, that practically gave carte blanche to internet stalkers. The ruling, which involved a writer who was stalked in a similar manner on the internet, said -- in effect -- that because of the existence of spam filters and blocking and banning (which rarely works in the case of a determined stalker) that the responsibility for the continuation of the stalking lay with the victim, not the perpetrator.
It's a mess. Janrae Frank I have no skeletons in my closet, they are all hanging from the yardarm.
