Robert Asprin Dies at 61

Atlanta, GA 5/23/2008 03:02 PM GMT (FINDITT)

Author Robert Asprin died in his New Orleans home on Thursday at the age of 61. No cause of death has been announced.

“Bob passed away quietly in his home in New Orleans, LA. He has been in good spirits and working on several projects, and was set to be the Guest of Honor at a major science fiction convention that very week,” said his family in a statement.

Asprin is best know for his fantasy novels including ‘Myth Adventures of Aahz and Skeeve.’ He also co-wrote the ‘Time Scout’ novels with Linda Evans.

Asprin is survived by his mother, sister, daughter, and his son

Whoa! shocked

Now that's a shock.  61 isn't very old.  Sorry to see him go.  His work was greatly entertaining.

Mon dieu! 61 is young. I really loved the Myth Adventures books, too.
Rest in peace, Robert Aspring - or to greater adventures go!

Oh my. Sixty-one is far too young.

I met Bob Aspirin once, when I was working a local con and he was one of the guests of honor. This was back around 1980, so he'd have been in his mid-thirties. He made an impression on me, mostly because he struck me as being a little feral under the surface. I gathered that he'd grown up in a tough neighborhood and he'd never entirely shed the defensive mentality. He still carried a set of small triangular knives hidden in his belt, ready at a moment's notice if the need arose. Lynne Abbey's description of who he was at heart -- always on guard, never trusting -- is certainly in line with the impression I got.

I'm sorry he's gone.

I share Beth's impression. I copy-edited one of his books that came out from Donning/Starblaze. I think it was the third myth book, but that was a long time ago. I met him at a few cons.

Once there were three brothers, Brandrahoon the vampire, Isranon called the Dawnhand, speaker to spirits, and Waejonan the Accursed, first of sa’necari. Isranon defied his brothers and was destroyed, his descendants forced into the darkness.
