Apparently, EDF's features were too much for our current hosting service to handle so they unilaterally downed the magazine. Apoligies to Brian Dolton, whose story was up. We'll be re-running his piece in August.

Right now we're struggling to get them to put the site back up with a reduced feature set. At the earliest opportunity, we'll be moving the site to a dedicated server. We estimate 3 to 48hrs downtime.

This hosting service gave us no warning at all. One minute we were up, and the next, we were shot down. After we'd paid for 10 years of hosting in advance. Needless to say, we'll be trying to get some of our money back.

The EDF site is back... with NO features. You can't comment on stories, but at least you can still see them. We're in the process of migrating to a new site.

That really hurts.

If I can help with any php or db-tuning know-how, holler.

I saw it was down earlier today. :/ And this was with you advertising for them as hosting, even, yeah?

Dedicated hosting, I recommend 1and1.com (they're who I have a server through, anyway, and except for the very occasional network outage, I've got no complaints).

We already have a dedicated hosting company picked out for our Web Design/php coding firm PageLoaders (newly formed), so we're going with them. Thanks for the offer though!

I heartily apologise for being the straw that broke the camel's back!

Such a little story... and yet so powerful...

I've no objection to re-running if you wish, but I wouldn't want to take anyone else's slot.

I see it's possible to comment on stories at this point, but I don't blame you for going with another host after this fiasco...best of luck in EDF's speedy transition/recovery.

We're slowly getting everything back up. It's amazing what kind of power your host has over you. With a good hosting company, you >should< never notice.
