This may be common knowledge by now, but Pirates of the Caribbean IV begins filming in St. Augustine, Florida (home of the Fountain of Youth, Yours Truly, and many other ghosts and illusions) this Summer, 2008. I believe the release date is set for 2011, but why wait so long?

So long?

If it just starts shooting this summer, that gives it less than 6 months till 2009 and I'll be surprised if they've finished shooting it by then. Once it's shot, it's got to have extensive special effects done and a lot of editing.

Let's assume they do finish shooting at the end of Dec 2008 and target spring break of 2011 as the release date. That means they have 2009 and 2010 to do all the editing, sound, special effects and other things that a finished movie has to have. That's only 2 years. That's a killer of a schedule.

If they just had the sense to hire real undead pirates they could save a lot of that post production time and cost.

PotC parts 2 & 3 were undecipherable, I can't imagine how screwy #4 will probably be...
